Along with releasing some of the finest rock, punk, heavy metal, and psych around, Tee Pee Records Annex is an ambitious archival project from New York’s legendary underground label.

“The Annex is home for releases we think are exceptional but sit slightly outside our usual mission for the label,” explains founder, Kenny Sehgal. “This could mean artists or bands that don’t tour or play live; it could be digital-only releases, co-releases with other labels, side projects, lost classics, local NYC bands and self-releases. In short, awesome odds ‘n’ sods.”

To date, the project has worked with the likes of Nick Saloman, Simeon Coxe, Osgood Slaughter, Mos Generator and many more, and continues with its first official Annex release of 2022 – Copyright Strike, the debut EP from Ohio-based, synth-pop masters, Metrolight.

Founded by musician David James, who began playing these songs in gay clubs and leather bars across the U.S., Metrolight’s Copyright Strike is an eclectic aural trip through a set of deeply addictive covers. Teaming up with fellow Death of Samantha bandmate and vocalist, John Petkovic (Sweet Apple, Cobra Verde), the duo has transformed a collection of classics into irreverent synth-pop masterpieces. Featuring covers of deep cuts by Kiss, T.Rex, Plastic Bertrand, INXS and Pere Ubu, the EP is powered by that same pulsating, rock-covets-synthpop energy that has channelled cult albums such as Pete Shelley’s Homosapien, Units’ Digital Stimulation and Sparks’ Angst in My Pants. With a full-length album of original material in the works, make no mistake that there’s plenty more to come from Metrolight. But for now, Copyright Strike is all you need.

Copyright Strike is out 11th February 2022 via Tee Pee Records. Stream the EP HERE and check out their video (below) of their cover of T-Rex’s ‘20th Century Boy’ featuring vocals by Doug Gillard (Cobra Verde, Guided by Voices).
