Terminal Cheesecake return with Cheese Brain Fondue: Live In Marseille

“One of the eighties most sonically unhinged bands of all time.”
The Arts Desk

“A delirious carnival of head music interrupted by nightmarish sound collages; a manic parade celebrating both the surreal and psychopathic, with a cast of characters ranging from serial killers to sex toys, circus freaks to a children’s choir and naked hippies.” The Quietus

Formed in East London in 1988 as the brainchild of Gary Boniface (The Purple Things, The Vibes), Russell Smith (A.R. Kane, MARRS), bassist Mick Parkin and drummer John Jobbagy, Terminal Cheesecake are one of England’s greatest musical oddities.

Like Pink Floyd and Hawkwind before them, as chief exponents of unmerciful, head-frying psychedelia, deranged dub and electronica, over a career spanning five albums – Johnny Town-Mouse (1988), VCL (1989), Angels In Pigtails (1990), Pearlesque Kings Of The Jewmost (1992) and King Of All The Spaceheads (1994) – they stand out as a remarkable anomaly.

In part influenced by the likes of Pussy Galore, Big Black and Butthole Surfers, they are an essential entry into the folklore of decidedly English eccentricity and experimentation with a legacy that has lived on over the years through a devoted coterie of fans, chaotic live shows and visionary records. Most notably, and indeed more recently this year, with the twenty-fifth anniversary of their seminal album Angels In Pigtails, released in 1990 on Kevin Martin’s (GOD/Ice/Techno Animal/The Bug) Pathological Records. An album that went some way to expunging the impure mash and disorder of previous releases to create a rich vista from otherworldly instruments, emerging sample technology and even greater psychosomatic depth. All to devastatingly brilliant effect.

Over the course of their trajectory the band adapted to several line-up changes before going on to release three more albums before disbanding in 1995. In 2013 however, they returned after a twenty-year hiatus with Russell Smith coming back into the fold, joined by guitarist Gordon Watson, original drummer John Jobbagy, Head of David’s Dave Cochrane on bass and new vocalist Neil Francis from Manchester’s equally exceptional Gnod. Retreating to the idyllic surroundings of Smith’s home in Bordeaux, the new five-piece line-up rehearsed for a number of outstanding shows in France and the UK, including Oxford’s Supernormal Festival and London’s Corsica Studios.

This August, with guitars placed firmly back at centre stage and a new lease of life running rife through their ranks Terminal Cheesecake release their first record in over twenty years. A live album (of all things!) that dusts off and reawakens the likes of ‘Johnny Town-Mouse’, ‘Bladdersac’ and ‘Herbal Spaceflight’ and puts forward new material as audible evidence of their peculiar, psychedelic and experimental potency.

“Personally, I have been a fan of the band since their first record on Pathological, and I connected with some fellows who were also deep into all things Terminal Cheesecake, so we traded live recordings,” explains Artificial Head Records’ Paul Chavez.

“There was something very dark and sinister about their sound. But also something maniacal and whimsical.  I couldn’t stop listening and ultimately found their first two releases a few months later. As time rolled on I connected with the band and kept bugging them about new or unreleased material. Finally, when I heard about the upcoming live release I kept prodding that it should be on my label… and here we are.” Cheese Brain Fondue: Live In Marseille will be released on 11th August on the Houston, Texas-based label Artificial Head Records.

DoctoR DooM announce new album This Seed We Have Sown

“With a devilish affection, the band conjures up a foggy brew of wicked blues and righteous stoner rock.”
Heavy Planet

“DoctoR DooM does everything you could possibly ask of them to introduce themselves as major new players in the heavy rock underground.”
The Ripple Effect

Formed in the French town of Ariège in the Midi-Pyrénées by guitarists Jean-Laurent Pasquet and Jérémie Delattre, since their formation in 2011 DoctoR DooM have blazed an impressive underground trail for followers of new, authentically crafted hard rock, metal and progressive blues.

Having come together out of a shared appreciation for forgotten 60s and 70s music, it didn’t take long for the duo to find kindred spirits in drummer Michel Marcq and bass player Sébastien Boutin Blomfield as they sought to pull together the rhythm section required to knock out a monumentally heavy live set. Initially performing covers of Coven, Thin Lizzy and Deep Purple, out of the riffs and drum rolls of old grew new, original numbers that would later surface fully formed on their 2012 debut DoomO EP on STB Records.

Inspired by the recent wave of Scandinavian stoner/rock bands such as Graveyard, Witchcraft and Spiders, throughout 2013 and 2014 DoctoR DooM took part in a series of high profile festival appearances including Spain’s Riff Ritual Fest, Doom Over Karalis in Sardinia and Germany’s much-celebrated DesertFest before taking to the studio at the end of last year to record their very first LP.

This Seed We Have Sown by DoctoR DooM will be released worldwide on 24th July 2015 on Ripple Music, with a limited vinyl released on STB Records out toward the end of June.

Michigan’s Bison Machine announce debut album Hoarfrost

“You might as well just give up, submit to the groove of the riffs, the psychedelic instrumentals, and the soaring vocals. The music surrounds you and swallows you whole. Let it consume you; it’s easier that way.”
Stoned Soda

Burning bright with lysergic energy Bison Machine’s Hoarfrost – the band’s debut album originally self-released to notable acclaim among the stoner rock community earlier this year – will get an official release this July through Germany’s Kozmik Artifactz/Bilocation Records, Europe’s leading purveyor of heavy psych, blues and stoner rock.

Worshippers of volume, Bison Machine have gained a reputation for their frenzied, high velocity live shows, welding Graveyard and Pentagram influenced shuffles onto the back of 70s Motor City rock and 90s stoner grooves. If you’re a fan of pounding, colossal blues and heavy Zep-driven riffs then the Hamtramck four-piece’s gnarled and muscular guitar and vocal work on tracks like ‘Cosmic Ark’, ‘Gamekeeper’s Thumb’ and ‘Viking Hand’ will leave you floored, broken and bloodied.

Along with news of their official album release Bison Machine take to the road this month for a run of five dates alongside New York’s heavy bluesers Geezer as part of their Mind Over Mountain tour.

Hoarfrost by Bison Machine will be released on CD and limited, high performance 180g vinyl on 10th July via Kozmik Artifactz/Bilocation Records

Danish rockers Grusom to release debut album through Kozmik Artifactz

“Grusom make some truly majestic rock, the old way. Inspired by and delving into the heart, passion and darkness of the 70s.”
DHU Records

Last November, less than one month after releasing a short three-song demo through Bandcamp, Danish outfit Grusom found a second home at Kozmik Artifactz. After falling for the band’s authentic, dark and brooding doom blues the German label – one of Europe’s leading purveyors of heavy psych, blues and stoner rock – immediately sought to release the band’s first full-length debut which will be released this July.

Originally formed in 2013 as a trio, Grusom quickly morphed into the six-headed beast it is today through extended jam sessions with friends; experienced and passionate musicians that would soon find themselves positioned firmly amid the ranks of the band’s ever-growing sonic arsenal of drums, strings and keys. Marked out by the dual 70s guitar play of Dennis Warburg and Thomas Ulrik, Jakob Kaae (drums) and Søren Olesen’s (bass) progressive rhythm section, Peter Pørtner’s organ and lead singer’s Nicolaj Hoffmann Jul’s weathered vocals, Grusom create a heavy, honest and unpolished world from their music.

The band’s lead single and video for ‘The Journey’, directed by Andreas Bastiansen and written while recording the album with Jacob Bredahl (Children Of Sodom) in Århus, Denmark’s Dead Rat Studio can be viewed here – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JSzdBlvnURA

Grusom by Grusom will be released on 31st July 2015 through Kozmik Artifactz
