Hailing from the foothills of the majestic Rocky Mountains, Woodhawk are undeniable masters of riff rock, harnessing the classic influences of Black Sabbath and Thin Lizzy with smooth grooves, cranked-up amps, and hard-hitting drums that coalesce into an impressive soundscape for the listener to explore.

With lyrical themes that span the imagination and incorporate elements of science fiction, mythicism and the more contemporary struggles of modern times, Woodhawk proudly wear their hearts on their sleeves.

Formed in 2014, following the release of their self-titled EP, the band returned with the critically acclaimed full length Beyond the Sun in 2017. A melodically rich and varied album, steeped in sci-fi vibes catchy riffs, Beyond the Sun cemented Woodhawk’s status as a desert rock band with the kind of potential to power from terrafirma into the great unknown.

Returning to Rain City Recorders in Vancouver earlier this year, Woodhawk worked with Jesse Gander (Anciients, Bison, 3 Inches of Blood, Japandroids, Pack AD) to record their sophomore album Violent Nature, which is due for official release this November. Over the course of two weeks, Woodhawk tracked their strongest effort yet, producing songs that addressed the struggles of mental health on new material that abandoned the world of fantasy in pursuit of emotional authenticity and self-discovery. Grounded with one foot in the present and another in the future, Woodhawk’s outlook is as boundless as their command of the genre.

Violent Nature by Woodhawk is released 1st November 2019 and can be pre-ordered HERE. Stream and share new song ‘Weightless Light’ below.

Belgian Prog Rockers Irregulars CAPTAIN CHEESEBEARD to release DEADWOOD EP on MOTTOW SOUNDZ | Watch the video for new single ‘PAN’S REDEMPTION’

“Captain Cheesebeard have studied hard at the feet of the master.” PROG MAGAZINE (UK)

Happily emerging many moons ago as a Frank Zappa tribute project, the Brussels-based decet (that’s TEN musicians, and yes, we checked) have since developed into a unique fusion ensemble. After years of respectfully interpreting Zappa and his music, bandleader, Johan De Coninck decided that the time had come for the band to explore their own virtuosity and begin writing original compositions.

Informed by the stylistic direction inherent in their previous project, the cosmik fruits of Captain Cheesebeard’s collective labour arrived in 2015 with the self-release of their debut album, Symphony for Auto-Horns. Taking it upon themselves to contribute to the global music family their impressive cache of songs portrayed the kind offree-form jazz improvisation, progressive rock, sound experimentation and lampooning of Western culture that one hopes would have made Frank smile. Songs about alcohol overindulgence (‘Coma Aroma’), gratuitous Veganism (‘March of the Fat Vegan Legion’) and the heavy rock machismo of yesteryear (‘Tash and A Guitar’), recorded with former-and-honest-to-God-actual Zappa cohort/session legend, Robert Martin.

“Captain Cheesebeard embodies everything our label stands for,” explains Mottow Soundz owner, Mathias Widtskiold. “Real music, for real people. Music that lives and breathes. A rarity these days… You simply can’t pigeonhole their style. That goes especially for their brand-new Deadwood EP. It was recorded live in the studio and the addition of a new singer definitely takes their cosmic journey to the next level.”

Deadwood EP is the first release by Captain Cheesebeard to feature new vocalist and local legend Alain Louie. A collection of four tracks, bold as brass and as adventurous as anything else you’re likely to hear this year, stream and share the video for new single ‘Pan’s Redemption’ here –

Rising Psychedelic Rockers DEAF RADIO Return with New Album, Modern Panic

“And now for something completely different from these Greek ‘proponents of hard rock and grievous genre assault.’ They may have a point on both counts; this new single is psychedelic but also hooky and super heavy – in manner of QOTSA getting freaky (but groovy) after a big cigarette or two. Nice.”

Following the release of their ‘Astypalea’ single in June, Athens’s leading psych rock quartet Deaf Radio are thrilled to announce the official release of their sophomore album on 15th November via ihaveadrum.

As chief proponents of hard rock and grievous genre assault, ever since the release of their debut album in 2017, the band has been hailed by many as one of the most exciting alt-rock bands to emerge from Greece in recent memory. With Alarm garnering thousands of streams online and gaining ecstatic praise from sell-out crowds when performed live across Europe, expectation are high for the release of Modern Panic; a sprawling, exhilarating and breathtaking record that promises to leave no ear unturned:

“Modern Panic isn’t just Alarm’s successor,” explains guitarist, Panos Gklinos. “It’s a record through which we redefine the band’s identity. Composing it felt like looking at a mirror, suddenly noticing something is changed and then embracing it. Musically there are moments where raw and powerful elements come to surface and others in which we our reveal darker shades. Written between London, New York, Athens and Crete, the changes in the mood of the record are ferocious, while lyrically it reflects on modern society’s issues such as lonerism, homophobia, racism, drug use and social media addiction.”

Having shared bills with the likes of The Killers, All Them Witches, 1000mods and The Kills while touring in 2017 and 2018, Deaf Radio honed the sound and feel of these new songs on the road, live and in-person with thousands of fans in over thirty different cities across Europe. An endeavour which opened the band up to the most perfect proving grounds for testing new material, when seeking to make that perfect next record.

“There’s no doubt that Alarm‘s success set the bar high, but in reality, once you put a record out there it’s all out of your control. People can resonate to it and give it a whole new meaning. It’s a chess game, we made our move, now we can’t wait to see how people react and how they will experience Modern Panic.”

Due for worldwide release on 15th November 2019 on ihaveadrum, Deaf Radio’s Modern Panic can be pre-ordered here –

Mancunian Noise Collective Locean to release new album, CHAV ANGLAIS, this November

“They tap into a singular, powerful sound. The group are a truly elemental force […] phantasmagorical spectrum of sounds and rhythms; there’s moments of sparse scatter-brained confusion, moments of pastoral beauty, and moments when their music becomes a fully-fledged krautrock battle cry.”

Locean on Bandcamp | Facebook

Artificial Head Records – the Houston, Texas-based label liable for releases by the likes of Funeral Horse and Terminal Cheesecake – is thrilled to announce the signing of experimental Mancunian collective, Locean, and with it the release of their new album, Chav Anglais.

Formed by founding members Jefferson Temple and Lauren Bolger, the pair first struck up a tryst in 2012, not in the name of archetypal love but in a shared curiosity for genre apocalypse, live extemporisation and sonic exorcism.

Having one of the most singular guitar-sounds in the city, Temple has collaborated with a host of outsider musicians both in Manchester and further afield, while serving as a permanent fixture in Charles Hayward’s Anonymous Bash. Providing a sonic bed for Bolger to lay bare her phonic consciousness, like Temple, she too has served time as a serial collaborator, performing alongside the likes of Thurston Moore and Official: Lydia Lunch. For over a decade she has also promoted a fusion of artist-led readings with live music at her critically acclaimed Paradox nights, and is a Creative Writing PhD Researcher and award-winning author of poetry and flash fiction.

Together – like their creative counterparts/collaborators, Gnod – from the pair’s first clarion call (coupled with a very loose, revolving door policy) Locean has drawn upon an impressive cast of players down the years. Intuitive but at the same time meditated, scatter-brained yet acutely aware of the spectrum of influences they’re traversing, they have become a psychedelic machine free of any regular scheduled programming. Krautrockian in spirit and rawer than the rarest of exposed nerves, pulling out abrasive free-jazz and no-wave guitar assaults that encapsulate everything that’s great about bands such as Teenage Jesus & the Jerks, The Birthday Party, Spacemen 3 and This Is Not This Heat. All the while, lyrically they sore through Bolger’s devastating panoramas of words and worlds

Alongside Mclean and Bolger is the band’s longest serving member, Neil Francis. Francis, who has been active in the Manchester experimental music scene for well over twenty years as a founding member of Gnod has consistently toured and performed in Europe and beyond, as well as appearing in various incarnations of bands Terminal Cheesecake and industrial agitprop collective, Errant Monks. Manning electronics and effects for Locean, Francis is joined by fellow Gnod member and drummer, Jon Perry, and bassist David McLean; a Manchester-based composer and founder of Tombed Visions Records, McLean has collaborated with a huge array of talent from Thurston Moore to Turkish Free Jazz group, Konstrukt, and Can’s Damo Suzuki.

Chav Anglais by Locean is released worldwide on 1st November 2019 on Artificial Head Records. Pre-order the album via Artificial Head Records here –
