For over two decades, The Death of Money have carved out a distinctive home for themselves in the darker recesses of the underground scene.
Emerging from South Wales in 2004, the Cardiff/Manchester trio have spent years exploring the heavier reaches of doom and sludge metal, drawing on the expansive textures of post-rock, shoegaze, goth and ambient music to create a sound that is as crushingly heavy as it is hauntingly atmospheric.
Now, following the release of their acclaimed fifth album, Error After Era, in 2024, The Death of Money return with their next full-length offering, Heads of The Valleys, due for release on 4th December 2026 via their own Suntreader label.
Released to coincide with the band’s twentieth anniversary, Error After Era marked their first full-length record since 2017’s Ghost Pains, an album that featured a collaboration with the legendary Jarboe of Swans. Emerging from what had seemed like the possible end of the band, the record instead signalled a creative rebirth, with heavier riffs, expansive sonic experimentation to help push their sound into new territory.
With Heads of The Valleys, The Death of Money look set to continue that evolution, further exploring the space between crushing heaviness and atmospheres without losing the identity they have spent so long building.
“The song is quite old, written during an impromptu jam in a barn in Ammanford,” explains front man, Darren Kaskie. “It came out of a huge argument after a gig in Swansea, becoming an unexpectedly healing release for the band. It remained a demo until we decided to resurrect it, and now we play it at every show. We absolutely love playing it. It has this massive, hypnotic, driving riff and groove, with a sludgy, shoegazey feel and plenty of twists and turns. It always seems to go down a storm live.”
Across their career, the band have forged a reputation as one of the UK’s most uncompromising underground acts, taking their music across the UK, Ireland and Europe, alongside multiple tours in Ukraine and Russia. Their live history has seen them share stages with an eclectic collection of acclaimed artists, including Pelican, This Will Destroy You, Future of the Left, Gnod, Liturgy, Envy, And So I Watch You From Afar and Beak>, among many others.
With a sound that refuses to sit comfortably within any one genre, The Death of Money continue to occupy their own space, balancing immense sonic weight with moments of unsettling beauty and emotional intensity.
Heads of The Valleys will be released on 4th December 2026 via Suntreader and can be pre-ordered here. Stream new single ‘Ammanford’ here.
