Hailing from Gothenburg, Citizend is thrilled to unveil their debut single and sign of things to come from their forthcoming debut EP, The Spiral, which is due for release later this year on Majestic Mountain Records.
Sidling around the boundaries between Americana, post-rock, and post-metal, Citizend features former Orochen guitarist Emil Gustavsson and multi-instrumentalist/producer Otto Nilsson. Sharing a common goal to break down barriers between archetypal genres, Citizend’s music is intertwined with themes focused on the profound complexities of life.
Over five songs, the first of which is a brooding rendition of Credence Clearwater Revival’s ‘Bad Moon Rising’, the duo embark on a journey with each track delving into life’s intricacies, difficult moments, and society’s struggle to learn from its missteps, ultimately culminating in the inevitable apocalypse.
Reflecting on the significance of ‘Bad Moon Rising’, Gustavsson explains how: “This song holds a special place in my heart since childhood, and its lyrics resonate now more than ever. It was the song that started our journey, both when it comes to context and concept.”
“This song sets the foundation and the sound for the entire project,” agrees Nilsson, “And it was a very gratifying track to start working together to create our own universe.”
Separately these five individual tracks are assembled form a soot-black palette, all painting an intense and gripping narrative that captivates the listener and sets the stage for a mesmerising exploration of sound, narrative, and emotion when played together.
Marco Berg of Majestic Mountain Records remarks, “Citizend’s debut EP is a ground-breaking endeavour, and one that pushes the boundaries of musical expression. We’re psyched to be a part of it all.”
Citizend’s The Spiral EP won’t be released by Majestic Mountain Records unti the end of 2024 but in the meantime you can listen to thier cover version of Credence Clearwater Revival’s ‘Bad Moon Rising’ here!
“With The Spiral, Citizend sets the stage for a mesmerizing exploration of sound, narrative, and emotion. Each note serves as a brushstroke, painting a vivid portrait of existence itself.” ECHOES AND DUST
