Italian heavy psych trio Deadpeach are thrilled to release Touch Me I’m Peach, their 1996 demo tape and second chapter in their newly restored archival series, The Demo Tapes.
Officially out today, the collection follows the recent reissue of their first demo, Green (1995), which resurfaced in November to renewed acclaim and gave fans a vivid glimpse into the band’s earliest studio sessions.
Where Green captured the band’s raw first steps, Touch Me I’m Peach documents Deadpeach amid rapid evolution. Recorded live in a single take at Studio Mobile Radio Tirana in Rimini, the 1996 demo shows the trio moving from the grunge-influenced immediacy of their earliest material into a more garage-psychedelic approach that would later define their heavy, hypnotic sound.
The lineup of Giovanni Giovannini (guitar, vocals), MRSteveman (bass, backing vocals), and Stefano Scola (drums) delivers seven tracks of instinctive, lo-fi energy, including early versions of songs that would later appear on the Due in Quattro 7″ vinyl and a free reinterpretation of Mudhoney’s ‘Touch Me I’m Sick’, retitled ‘Touch Me I’m Peach’.
Digitally remastered in 2025 at Tam Tam Studio in Cesena, the new edition preserves the analogue grit of the original tape while restoring details previously lost to noise and age. As with the Green reissue, the release includes previously unseen archival materials, most notably a full reproduction of Peach Zine #1, the handmade collage zine originally distributed with the cassette and filled with lyrics, cut ups, and psychedelic writings.
The cover art of Touch Me I’m Peach, influenced by the pop-art style of Roy Lichtenstein, reflects Deadpeach’s early fascination with bold visual language and DIY culture. Together with Green – which includes scans of Peach Zine #0 and rare photos from their first studio sessions – the two demos offer a complete portrait of the band’s first creative phase, shaped by rehearsal-room experimentation, lo-fi recording practices, photocopied artwork, and the underground spirit of mid-’90s Italy.
“These recordings capture who we were. Young, instinctive, searching,” says vocalist and guitarist Giovanni Giovannini. “It wasn’t about perfection. It was about expression. Reissuing these tapes is like reopening a time capsule.”
With Touch Me I’m Peach, Deadpeach close the book on their early lo-fi era, paving the way for the heavier and more expansive sound that would lead to their debut album Psycle and, decades later, their acclaimed 2024 album The Cosmic Haze and the Human Race.
The Demo Tapes: Green is available now, and The Demo Tapes: Touch Me I’m Peach is released digitally today, with both titles available for pre-order via Bandcamp and arriving shortly after on all major streaming platforms.
