Originally conceived as a bedroom recording project in Beijing by songwriter Zac Burger, The Burgers have always challenged traditional ideas of what a punk band can be.

Since beginning to write and record in the winter of 2019, Zac has built a fiercely independent catalogue blending punk, folk punk, indie pop and power pop, guided by DIY ethics and deeply personal songwriting.

In November 2022, The Burgers released two full-length albums – Amusement Park of Beijing and Stay or Run Away – alongside the EP The Run Away Trilogy, documenting three years of songwriting. Inspired in part by the bittersweet songwriting of Glasgow indie favourites Bubblegum Lemonade, Zac moved from Beijing to Glasgow in late 2023, entering a new creative chapter.

That chapter culminated in Kick Fights to Lose, released on 3rd May 2025 via Zac’s own label, Unsolicited Demos Records. Issued on a limited-edition cassette with a behind-the-scenes zine, the record marked the first collection of songs Zac had written entirely in English. An urgent, uncompromising punk album, Kick Fights to Lose also drew inspiration from Zac’s lifelong passion for the Chinese martial art Bajiquan.

Now living without a permanent base, Zac continues to embrace a nomadic approach to music. Rejecting the notion that punk must exist solely as a conventional band, The Burgers perform as a stripped-back live project featuring backing tracks alongside puppet drummer Drummy Burger, remaining committed to DIY independence over industry convention.

The new single, ‘Bedroom’, reimagines a delicate acoustic recording by Paul Hughes into a vibrant blast of punk and power pop, transforming its intimate bedroom origins into a full three-piece arrangement while preserving the emotional core of the original.

For Zac, the release serves as both a tribute to bedroom musicians creating outside the traditional live circuit and a celebration of The Burgers’ own beginnings as a bedroom recording project.

With UK and Japan dates planned throughout 2026, ‘Bedroom’ marks the next step in an ever-evolving project, proving punk doesn’t need to follow convention to make an impact.
