Following the boundary-defying progressive soundscapes of Journeyman and Wolves, Norwegian composer, drummer and Drage Records founder André Drage returns with Through Death and Beyond, his most intimate and emotionally powerful work to date.

“I was thinking first and foremost about the people in my life having a hard time, but what the music is and will appear to be about for other people is completely open,” explains Drage. “I hope it will tell a story about wandering in the unknown, going through pain and having a feeling of acceptance and hope at the end of it all.”

Where Journeyman explored musical landscapes inspired by Norwegian folk traditions, African rhythms and ambient experimentation, Through Death and Beyond turns inward. Written during a period of emotional struggle and reflection, the album is less concerned with geographical influences than the universal experiences of grief, loss, perseverance and, ultimately, hope.

Drage has continually refused to be confined by genre. Across his solo work he draws from progressive rock, jazz, ambient music, contemporary composition and world music, creating records that feel both adventurous and deeply human.

With Through Death and Beyond, that adventurous spirit remains, but the focus has shifted towards emotional honesty. Every arrangement serves the story, allowing moments of beauty, tension and stillness to unfold naturally as the album explores themes that are as personal as they are universal.

Released through his own Drage Records label, Through Death and Beyond continues Drage’s commitment to uncompromising artistic expression, exceptional sound quality and thoughtful presentation. It stands as both his most vulnerable release to date and a reminder that even music born from sorrow can offer comfort, connection and hope.
