Godzilla In The Kitchen are thrilled to announce a bold new chapter with Termination Sequence, their third studio album on Tonzonen Records.
Following 2022’s Exodus and the 2023 live album Live At Break Out, the Leipzig trio return with a record that marks a decisive evolution in their sound. Set for release this October, Termination Sequence pushes the band’s psychedelic groove-rock into heavier territory, drawing on stoner, metal and progressive influences to deliver their most direct and forceful sound to date.
Formed in 2012, Godzilla In The Kitchen evolved from basement jams into a festival-tested live act, appearing repeatedly at Wacken Open Air and touring extensively across Germany. After the departure of drummer Felix Rambach in 2023, guitarist Eric Patzschke and bassist Simon Ulm welcomed Brazilian drummer Thiago Presto into the band. When the new lineup began working on its first demos together in 2024, the dynamics, drive and energy immediately shifted. As Patzschke puts it: “We sound much heavier and more aggressive than before.”
The new material soon led to another crucial moment. Seeking a second opinion, the band turned to producer Andy Schmidt (Disillusion). His response was immediate: “Start singing already!” What began as a simple suggestion became the catalyst for a fundamental change in the band’s approach. Ulm embraced the challenge, stepping behind the microphone for the first time, with lyrics and vocals developing organically alongside the music.
The result is a record where grooving riffs and melodic passages collide with emotional, aggressive vocals, while the band’s roots in stoner, progressive and psychedelic rock remain firmly intact. Recorded at the band’s own Kuntergrund Studio, Termination Sequence finds Godzilla In The Kitchen carving out a distinctive analogue sound, with Schmidt also contributing to the arrangements. Lyrically, the album responds to the turbulent events of the contemporary world, giving its eight tracks a clear sense of urgency and purpose – perhaps captured most vividly in the soaring new single ‘Birdsong’.
“It’s probably the most emotional song on there,” explains Patzschke, “It deals with themes of growth and regret and acknowledges that not every aspect of one’s character must be accepted. Accompanied by melodic, almost wistful verses, the song follows the protagonist through aggression and self-hatred to the realisation that improvement is possible.”
Termination Sequence is a massive sonic statement that hits with force while leaving room for subtle nuances and compositional depth. Combining groove, atmosphere and progressive ambition with a newfound vocal intensity, it captures a band continuing to push beyond its established boundaries.
